Changing domain names, whatever the reason is a hassle. A big hassle. Very few people who have ever had to do it will disagree. It can go smoothly and seemingly unnoticed, or it can result in rankings disappearing off the face of the SERPs and monumental losses of traffic. The problem is, you’re at the mercy of the search engines and so there is no way of guaranteeing the former and avoiding the latter. Ultimately you want to make the life of search engine spiders as easy as possible - there are several steps that can be taken to help ensure this happens, the transition is smooth and impact is minimal.

Last month The Independent saw the largest rise in unique visitors of any of the other ABCe tracked newspapers thanks to support from Latitude’s SEO team. Unique site visits increased by 20.6% between August and September, and by over 73% since March, when Latitude began working with The Independent.

When Cuil was launched in July 2008 it was big news, Google’s dominance in the search industry was finally going to be challenged by a serious competitor. The pedigree was impressive, promising the world’s largest search index (121 billion indexed pages on launch), more relevant results, and promising never to store any personally identifiable information.
